Do you think it is unfair that the “tax relief” checks will give extra for children?
Question by Yinzer from Sixburgh: Do you think it is unfair that the “tax relief” checks will give extra for children?
My understanding is that the tax relief checks will be:
0 per person (00 per married couple)
0 additional for each child
WHY? Those children were already used as a tax deduction on the income tax forms. So…. people are getting money back for children which they were already compensated for.
You guessed it…I don’t have children. And as a double income/no children household, my husband and I pay through the nose in taxes. Why, then, when we’ve already payed more than people with children, are we getting less when we had to pay MORE in the first place?
This is supposed to stimulate the economy. You know what? I can spend the money as fast as someone with children can.
I realize those of you with children will most likely take offense to this….but can you really defend your position?
YOU PEOPLE ACT LIKE I’M GETTING FREE MONEY WHEN IT IS MONEY I EARNED. IT WAS MY MONEY IN THE FIRST PLACE THAT I PAID THE GOVERNMENT IN TAXES. Whine? Damn right I’m whining.

Whine, whine, whine. If the $300 per child isn’t fair then your $600 isn’t fair either.
Quit your whining. Ever think those parents will spend that money on their children? I don’t have children either and I think it’s completely fair. It’s a check you’re getting in the mail that you otherwise wouldn’t get. So who freakin’ cares what the person next door will receive!! GET OVER YOURSELF!
Hey Fonz, ever think about the fact that someone paid for you to go to school? Maybe they didn’t have children either. It’s called civic duty.
I understand what you are saying. Try not to think about the taxes you pay for schools and you don’t have a Child.
How about we turn this back into America where you keep
your money,,,and they only rob money to protect the country,,
Not take money from people who work and give it to people
because they can sit around and pop out kids,,,,or give it to
someone that is not an American because they feel sorry for them,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Boy the leeches are out today,
Well…it doesn’t really matter….we don’t have to defend our posistion….because the government is giving us extra whether you like it or not…LOL!!!!!BTW, OUR CHILDREN will be the future of this country….the ones living in it and making decisions long after you’re gone from it. Think about that.
stop crying like a little baby. if it upsets you that much then go bang your husband so you can get an extra $300 on the next “TAX RELIEF” check.
This rebate as nothing to do with tax deductions. It’s simply to try to boost the economy. It cost more for a family to live that have children, and this is why they’re receiving more money. Everybody is going to spend this money, and it will help boost the economy
The rebate is one part economic and two parts political. It’s an election year and both parties want to pander to families, so extra money goes for children.
There are hundreds of things that are not “fair” about the tax system. This isn’t the only one. It’s not even among the worst.
I follow your reasoning, but at least – from my understanding – the people getting more back on account of the kids had to have paid in!
I’m one of those sorry single people who worked my butt off and made good money last year – - I’m not even eligible for the “relief”.
People get more back for children because it takes more money to raise children When you decide to have children then you will get the tax benefits kids get We all have been there I to have had to pay alot in taxes each tax year before I had children now that I have children I get the money back your time will come hopefully
As originally proposed, the rebate was an actual rebate of taxes paid. By the time congress was done with it, it had expanded to cover many other people and situations. I’m not saying that expansion was right or wrong, just that it was very much expanded from what Bush originally proposed, and can no longer really go by the name “rebate”.
Dear whiner, how do you know you “pay” more then people with kids? If someone has a child they get up to 1000.00 in child tax credit and also a personal exemption of 3400.00. Assuming they are in the 25% tax bracket that is 850.00. Are you saying it costs less then 1850.00 to raise a child? You are getting 600.00 per mouth in your house. People with kids only get half for their kids. They are technically getting less per person. As most selfish people are, they only have blinders on and look at how it only affects them and not others. You are right, this is not fair, each child is worth 600.00. BTW life is not fair. Most costs with raising a child are not deductible, but I bet you and your husband file as many deductions as possible.
Hey what about all those old people who don’t pay any taxes at all. They are getting 300.00 each. Why don’t you go down to the senior home and kick some old people around?
You should be happy that you are getting something at all. The government is spending money that we have to borrow now and these kids will have to pay back later. Who do you think is going to have social security taken out of their paychecks to pay for your medicaid and social security benefits when you are old?
I understand where you are coming from, but being a widow with a young son that 300.00 I am getting for him will no even equal what the two of you are getting back so between you and I you win out in the rebate. To give you an update of how life isn’t fair I have lost around 50k a year since my hubby passed away and I cannot get any money from his social security because my 27k a year pushes me to far over the amount one is allowed to make. So I have two choices quit my job and live for free from the government or continue working, paying taxes, paying for our medical and just accept yet another unfair thing that has happened to me in the past year. I am doing the right thing and I am going to continue working and adjusting mine and my sons lifestyle until things settle down so that 300.00 I am getting for my son from the government is going to be tucked away to pay for school clothes for next year. Yes that is right school clothes that he must have which fortunatley for you you don’t have to buy for a child or children. Yes my son gets survivors benefits since his father has passed away, but I bet any amount of money that between my paycheck and survivors benefits the two of you are bringing home more money then the two of us and we probably have similar bills to pay like house, taxes, insurance, food, gas, utilities, school loan, and still try to save something for when I retire and he gets ready to go to college. I really do understand where you come from, but please take another look at the big picture and if the 300 still makes you feel bad I can send you my son’s check and you can try and figure out how that money will buy pants, socks, shirts, jackets, shoes, and other neccesities for school in New York States. I do feel your pain though since you are getting more money back in this rebate then I am. I can tell you from experience that life is unfair…trying planning a funeral for your husband who died in your arms unexpectedly at the age of 40 while you are a 35 year old widow who has to explain quite often to your 6 year old son why Daddy is never coming home. Do that for me then explain again why the 300 is so unfair.
