How should I care for this “injury”?
Question by Jumping Beans: How should I care for this “injury”?
This is gross, so don’t read if you’re squemish:
It’s not a BAD injury, but I don’t want it to get infected and I want to make sure I’m bandaging it correctly.
We practice barefoot in my tae kwon do class. I *never* walk around barefoot, so the underside of my big toe quickly developed a big blister, and then at some point during the workout it popped and tore off several layers of my skin. I still have the flap of skin attached – almost the entire pad (underside) of my big toe came off. It’s pretty gross, but it doesn’t hurt much. I didn’t even notice until we went to put our shoes back on.
So when I got home I washed it up, put some polysporin on the raw skin, closed the flap with “Nu Skin” and then bandaged it.
It’s not deep enough to require stitches, but it’s the deepest popped blister that I’ve ever had. It ripped off 2 or more layers of skin, at least.
So anyhow.. is there anything else I should do for it?

I would just make sure it’s clean and covered. a popped blister can lead to infection but you seem to have taken care of it pretty well. but if it starts to hurt/burn or look infected i would see a dr. for it.

Put a regular band aid on it to give it some padding, then wrap it with medical tape so the band aid stays on. You want to protect it from getting rubbed or irritated until it heals.
NuSkin needs to be removed and fill the area with zinc oxide. This will help the immature skin age correctly to give your toe a natural cushion again. If you cannot remove it would not be a bad thing to have your family doc take a look.
