If your whole body hurts due to injuries (long story), what would you do about it if narcotics don’t work?
Question by bazimme: If your whole body hurts due to injuries (long story), what would you do about it if narcotics don’t work?
I’ve had several joint replacements and recently back surgery (a cyst was pressing against the nerve root making it VERY painful to even take 1 step) and I was wondering what you suggest. My other “injuries” were not really injuries but I had to have 2 hips and 1 knee replaced and it all hurts like hell. Maybe it’s worse cuz of the nasty damp weather. I am NOT into herbal stuff and can NOT do yoga…doc’s orders. So what to do? Massage therapy? I’ve asked this question before but no answers. Hopefully someone will see this and can relate and can point me in the right direction. Does anyone know anything about massage therapy? Has it helped you or is it just a waste of money? Thanks for your answers in advance!

massage therapy works really well for some people.
Why don’t you find a pain clinic in your area? These doctors specialize in stubborn pain.

Its a tough spot to be in. Neuromuscular massage works well as does some moderate exercise. I broke my neck, have had 4 knee surgeries and spinal fusion.
Sometimes it just hurts.
The winter weather does usually make chronic pain even worse. I’ve been a chronic pain patient for about 14 years, I have RSDS (reflex sympathetic dystrophy syndrome) also called CRPS (chronic regional pain syndrome) . I was so lucky to have been sent to a pain management clinic that treats the whole person. The only thing that gets me through some days is the self hypnosis, meditation and visualizations I was taught by a practitioner my pain doc sent me to. You don’t have to spend much money, get on the Internet and google things like “meditation tapes” and “guided visualizations”.. Find yourself a tape or two to listen to and give it a shot. I’ve tried acupuncture, cupping, tapping, chiropractics, you name it and have settled in to my narcotic pain relievers, anti-inflamatories and meditation. It’s just a shame I threw away thousands of dollars to get to this place. Problem is that you need to try many things to find what works for you. My advice would be to use your common sense when deciding to try something new, talk to people who have used whatever therapy it is and set yourself a time limit, if it hasn’t helped after that stop throwing good money after bad. Greedy people prey on the desperate , chronic pain tends to make us desperate so we always need to be on guard for quacks.
PS. If your hospital has a chronic pain support group it is a great place to bounce ideas off of others and get some info about things that have worked for others and things that are a waste of time.
Are you going to a pain clinic/center? If not; you need to make an appointment asap! They can help you and provide you will avenues and things to help and other doctors cannot.
Have you thought about wearing a SACROILIAC BELT around your waist? The price of SI belts are in reasonable range these days, average cost is about $40 USD. I know a lot of people who wear SI belts, and I’ve read some astonishing testimonials about it.
Serola SI Belt seems to be the best SI belt out there as far as quality, comfort, and price are considered. Check out their website for more: http://www.serola.net
Maybe it will help. Good luck to you!
Massage works great with these kinds of things.
There is also a big mental component to pain like this even though there is such physical damage.
Read some of John Sarnos books “Healing Back Pain” (I think the name of one of them is.)
