Medical question – lump/cyst on upper arm near shoulder -?
Question by BP: Medical question – lump/cyst on upper arm near shoulder -?
I know this is near impossible to diagnose just by asking a question, but I just wanted to get some idea if anyone in the medical field knows the more common possibilities that this could be – I recently felt on my upper outside edge of my right arm, about 1-2″ down from the top of my shoulder, a small squishy lumb, maybe the size of a small plumb or prune, its fairly deep and kind of round feeling, I can feel the outside or top part of it only, under my skin, it feels like its about 1.5 to 2″ in diameter roughly – Its not rock hard, but kind of slightly firm and squishy feeling, It appears to move around a bit when I play with it with my left hand – no pain or discomfort – Its right above that muscle we have on the back outside edge of our upper arms, and just below the shoulder, and faces a bit more to the “back” side of my outer arm than the front of my body. I am overweight if that is a factor, I am 5’10″ male 47 yrs old and about 275 lbs, so my BMI is way more than it should be. I know sometimes fat tissue and weight issues can impact or cause growths or pockets/tumors, etc.
Is this thing possible a cyst or fluid pocket that might go away on its own? Or whats the most likely thing it might be based upon anyone with alot of medical experience with this type of thing? I don’t have medical insurance at all, and I am out of work, so its an issue for me – I can’t just “run” to a doctor or a lab and spend a ton of money on diagnosis and tests, or god forbid surgery and biopsy’s, etc. I am in bad shape financially, but sadly I don’t qualify for medicade either. Thanks for any help !!

Though it may be nothing I would recommend having it looked at by someone. It is impossible to tell you what it might or might not be without more information. Depending on where you are there are numerous avenues to have a doctor look at it that cost little to nothing. Start with free clinics listings in your area or the local health department. Even if you do have to pay them something they will usually work with you to pay them over time.
Good luck.
