Question by Beano4aReason: I have a reoccuring muscular injury in the middle of my back. I do not remeber the first time it was injured,
perhaps I was seventeen. Anyhow, I am 21 and just this evening I was lifiting a TV stand and instantaniously the injury “almost lit up” and I wanted to cry! It has been a few hours and I have taken Advil and a hot shower after dinner. What do I do, I don’t have the money for the doc. Anybody want to give me some advice?

i have a partially crushed disc in my back that goes out sometimes. the pain is usually not from the actual injury but from the reaction from the muscles in your back trying to compensate. hot baths, some kind of vibrator and slow stretching exercises help me. don’t push yourself. there are self help books for back injuries you can buy

Question by ULTRAFRESH: Stuck in the middle of a Divorce?
Here’s the problem.

I am 15 years old at the moment.

My Mom and Dad have just recently Divorced but I have been living with my Dad for over a year. At first my Mom would call me alot. (daily) then her calls gradually decreased over time. Then she hardly called me at all, and i would hardly spend time with her. I think its because i hate talking to her for some reason all i do is say, “Kay.” or “OK” on the phone. Heres where it gets interesting:

She has been getting MY Social Security on behalf over her “Back Injury”. Now, my dad went to court the other day to finally settle the Divorce. My Dad tells me she is trying to file for complete custody of me for more money. My mom tells me my Dad is trying to file complete Custody of me. Then my Dad tells me recently at court after they had brought up the Social Security situation my Mom had flipped out and told my Dad, “I will get Jonathan. You wait and see.” My dad also told me that i have to see my Mom on weekends and tuesday’s.

She’s calling me and telling me about how broken her heart is… and all this crap.

But is she just trying to get custody of me for money?
Is my Dad lying about my Mom so that i can stay with him?
Who should i believe?
What should i do?

Help!

Question by marnefirstinfantry: Bringing back the draft…A good idea or the end of the Bush administration’s war in the Middle East?
With so much animosity against the draft, will there be protests in the streets and organized resistance to the draft?

Is the draft a good idea?

Selective Service to Test Draft Machinery
By KASIE HUNT, AP

WASHINGTON (Dec. 22) – The Selective Service System is making plans to test its draft machinery in case Congress and President Bush need it, even though the White House says it doesn’t want to bring back the draft.

The agency is planning a comprehensive test – not run since 1998 – of its military draft systems, a Selective Service official said. The test itself would not likely occur until 2009.

Scott Campbell, the service’s director for operations and chief information officer, cautioned that the “readiness exercise” does not mean the agency is gearing up to resume the draft.

“We’re kind of like a fire extinguisher. We sit on a shelf,” Campbell told The Associated Press. “Unless the president and Congress get together and say, ‘Turn the machine on’ … we’re still on the shelf.”

Veterans Affairs Secretary Jim Nicholson prompted speculation about the draft Thursday when he told reporters in New York that “society would benefit” if the U.S. were to bring back the draft. Later he issued a statement saying he does not support reinstituting a draft.

The administration has for years forcefully opposed bringing back the draft, and the White House said Thursday that policy has not changed and no proposal to reinstate the draft is being considered.

The “readiness exercise” would test the system that randomly chooses draftees by birth date and its network of appeal boards that decide how to deal with conscientious objectors and others who want to delay reporting for duty, Campbell said.

We should know the best means to avoid all forms of back pain including middle back pain. To understand what back pain is,we need to understand its structure.Vertebrae consists of thirty small bones, which are stacked one on top of the other and which use ligaments, tendons as well as muscles
for connecting with one another.

Middle back pain or thoracic spine pain is not a very common occurrence .Usually it is caused by muscular irritation as well as joint dysfunction. There are also instances when you may injure your disk that will cause you middle back pain, though such kind of injuries are not known to happen very often. Though not all types of back pain may warrant a visit to a physician, middle back pain most often will mean consulting a doctor.

Middle back pain may occur due to poor posture, or sitting in a single position for extended periods of time. If you are sitting in a chair of poor design you could very well end up with middle back pain. Other causes include emotional worries which results in stiffness in muscles and consequent pain.

Another possible cause of middle back pain is kidney infections. The common symptoms for this are pain as well as discomfort during the passing of urine. If you have stomach ulcers you would experience middle back pain which becomes more noticeable after consuming a meal. In any case, this condition comes about due to lower back misalignment and even through lower neck misalignment.

Common warning signs of middle back pain include having a tender spot in the chest that switches on and off, needing to struggle with the breath when breathing normally, having chest pains while taking a deep breath, and also feeling pain in the chest when sneezing or coughing. This condition must be treated and the best treatment would be making gentle adjustments of the ribs as well as of the spine. In some cases, you may even use ice to reduce the swelling caused by this condition.

What Are The Causes And Treatments Of Middle Back Pain

Middle back pain is not as common as lower or upper back pain but it can be just as painful and debilitating. The intensity of the pain can also range from mild to severe and can be temporary or chronic. Having said that middle back pain is usually treatable and any pain manageable either through drugs or therapy.

In most cases middle back problems are caused by muscle strains from picking up or moving heavy weights. However they can also be caused by physical trauma like an accident and in some cases it may be a spinal problem that causes the pain.

The middle back is made up of 12 vertebrae and is the strongest and most stable portion of the back, however it can be affected by spinal problems like slipped discs or a herniated disc.

If you do have problems with your middle back the first place to go is your doctor or chiropractor. They should be able to discover what is causing the pain, whether it is a muscular problem or something a bit more serious. Herniated discs and slipped discs can usually be diagnosed with an x-ray and treatment given accordingly.

Muscular middle back pain is usually treated with medications and an exercise regime. Most of the painkillers are over the counter treatments like painkillers and sometimes muscle relaxants. In severe pain the doctor or chiropractor may prescribe something a bit stronger.

With muscular pain it is usually recommended to take moderate exercise so you do not stiffen up and make the problem worse, bed rest is not recommended for more than a couple of days. Easy exercise and stretching is recommended to help loosen and strengthen the back muscles. Massage may also be recommended for loosening up strained muscles and can be very beneficial at times.

Whatever treatment your doctor or chiropractor recommend you should also think about the long term health of you back and start a back strengthening regime for it. Do a few exercises daily to help strengthen the muscles and your back should be fine for years to come.
