Question by Steve: Terrible back pain. Can hardly walk. Left mid to upper back.?
Help me!!! All I can remember doing was picking up my newborn daughter who weighs 5lbs, felt the normal, “Ouch, think I pulled a muscle” feeling. Woke up almost impossible to walk. I actually thought I was having a heart attack since the pain seems to be right behind where my heart is. If I take my shirt off, you can actually tell that my body looks kinda crooked, with more love handle on my left side. Been taking 1400mg worth of motrin with no relief.

Please help me, I have been out of work for a week due to my childs birth, I am due back tomorrow, and I dont want to miss more work.

You did not mention when this happened. If it’s within a day or two it may simply be a muscle strain and resolve on it’s own. If it’s been more than that and you’ve had no relief with ibuprofen, it is possible you have an disc protrusion that has resulted in an acute lateral shift in your spine. I would recommend you see your physician and see if he/she will refer you to physical therapy. I would recommend you see one who has completed the credentialling in mechanical dianosis and therapy. Question by Just Me: Severe back pain in upper right shoulder blade/scapula area?
For some time now, over a year, I’ve been having pains in my back, near my scapula, I forgot what the name of the muscle is, I should know because I’m in anatomy, but it starts with a T..like trapez..something.

But yeah, in the link I gave, it’s always in the highlighted area, either that whole area or just one certain point where I could point to:

Anywayy…about 6 months ago I was in a SLIGHT car accident, all we did was get bumped at a red light but I already had this pain for quite a while, and I went to the ER, but that side didn’t even hurt, it was my spine and left side of my neck, I had a “severe muscle spasm” (doctor put it in simple terms for me haha) and then told me to go to an orthopedics but I never did because after 2 days the pain went away and to this day I don’t have any problems, could that have any affect on my other side?

I don’t know where to go, if I should see a chiropractor or an othropedic..what do you think is causing this pain…sometimes it’s so bad I can’t lay down, sit or stand because it’s so bad, others, like right now, it’s only a little. What should I do, and do you have any idea what’s causing this? I wear a bra to bed, and it’s near my brastrap si would that cause it? When I take it off I still have pain but not as bad.

you probably have a separated rib where it joins your spine. A lot of your nerves are there and are probably pinched. Get xrayed before you see a chiropractor, and get a lot of therapy. Dont let anybody manipulate your spine unless an ortho. oks it. You are probably in for a long haul of treatment, and even that will disappoint you. You are seriously injured. Believe me a good therapist can do wonders but it takes time. It is so easy to hurt ones ribs and so hard to heal them. good luck

Simple Ways To Relax Your Upper And Lower Back Muscles

The saying ‘excess of everything is bad’ does not exclude rest, even when you are experiencing problems like back pain. It is a rather surprising fact that lazing about after an encounter with pain in the back actually makes the condition worse. In most of the cases, physical activity is a necessity for complete convalescence.

You will be surprised to find out how many things can cause us a back muscle pain and at how you can easily avoid them. Here are a few suggestions that if you follow daily it can help you avoid it in future.

A number of medications have been manufactured for relief like analgesics and anti-inflammatory drugs. But experience with back pain has taught people many treatments without involving medicines like aspirin, ibuprofen etc. These treatments vary from special exercises to herbal formulas and daily household items. Some of these home remedies prove very effective in the cause of back relief.

Lower back pain is one of the most commonly reported types of pain in America. Studies show that about 60% of the pain problems in United States are those of the lower back. Each year, at least billion are spent in America on treatment of the lower back pain. While in most cases, the pain is relieved in a few days, a number of cases take a long time to heal completely and sometimes serious complications may result.

Lower pain can create great discomfort and be the cause of many sleepless nights. It is a very common ailment and most people in their lifetimes will suffer from it. There are a variety of causes, some of which we will discuss below. It is important to have your back checked out by a professional as it can also be caused from underlying more serious conditions.

Sleeping with the wrong kind of mattress can be one of the causes. With a specially designed mattress, your back can benefit from proper back support, which could lead to proper sleeping posture, prevent straining of muscles promote spine alignment and reduce lower back pains.

Upper back pain, along with pain in neck and shoulder, has become an increasingly familiar problem in recent years, especially among people who do computer work all day long. But it has long been known, especially as a consequence of sudden trauma or injury. In most cases, upper back pain is the result of either muscular irritation (called myofascial pain) or dysfunction of joints.

The spine is one of the most important parts of the body. It provides the support of the muscle and tissues and bones that make up the majority of our body. The spine leads up into the head and is the main support structure for the back therefore keeping it healthy is important.

Question by BP: Medical question – lump/cyst on upper arm near shoulder -?
I know this is near impossible to diagnose just by asking a question, but I just wanted to get some idea if anyone in the medical field knows the more common possibilities that this could be – I recently felt on my upper outside edge of my right arm, about 1-2″ down from the top of my shoulder, a small squishy lumb, maybe the size of a small plumb or prune, its fairly deep and kind of round feeling, I can feel the outside or top part of it only, under my skin, it feels like its about 1.5 to 2″ in diameter roughly – Its not rock hard, but kind of slightly firm and squishy feeling, It appears to move around a bit when I play with it with my left hand – no pain or discomfort – Its right above that muscle we have on the back outside edge of our upper arms, and just below the shoulder, and faces a bit more to the “back” side of my outer arm than the front of my body. I am overweight if that is a factor, I am 5’10″ male 47 yrs old and about 275 lbs, so my BMI is way more than it should be. I know sometimes fat tissue and weight issues can impact or cause growths or pockets/tumors, etc.
Is this thing possible a cyst or fluid pocket that might go away on its own? Or whats the most likely thing it might be based upon anyone with alot of medical experience with this type of thing? I don’t have medical insurance at all, and I am out of work, so its an issue for me – I can’t just “run” to a doctor or a lab and spend a ton of money on diagnosis and tests, or god forbid surgery and biopsy’s, etc. I am in bad shape financially, but sadly I don’t qualify for medicade either. Thanks for any help !!

Though it may be nothing I would recommend having it looked at by someone. It is impossible to tell you what it might or might not be without more information. Depending on where you are there are numerous avenues to have a doctor look at it that cost little to nothing. Start with free clinics listings in your area or the local health department. Even if you do have to pay them something they will usually work with you to pay them over time.
Good luck.

Why Your Upper Back is in Trouble?

Among the myriad of pains that affect people today, one of the most common for nearly every second person at some point in their life is back pain. It could be lower back pain or the upper back pain. Generally it is the lower back pain that is more common and more traumatic than upper back pain but upper back pain is probably the least understood and most difficult to treat successfully.

There could be several reasons a person suffers from upper back pain. In the majority of cases the upper back pain is a result of problems that develop all through the body. Sometimes a person suffering from upper back pain has had some history of lower back pain as well. The upper back pain generally occurs in between the shoulder blades and the neck area. The upper back pain is irritated with movement of the muscles that have become tight and weak perhaps from sitting at a computer at work all day. In our daily lives it is the upper back that is under constant pressure as it has to carry the weight of the head and the shoulders. Other cases of upper back pain could be an injury from an accident that isn’t treated correctly. Once the initial soreness is gone there is a tendency to forget it and months later a chronic pain in the area starts. One more reason for the occurrence of upper back pain is poor posture especially when sitting at a desk all day.

Upper back pain treatment should include strengthening of the muscles and stimulating circulation to the area as well as strengthening and balancing the muscles in the lower back and legs. This will always help reduce pressure on the muscles of the upper back. There are many self help books available on the net that advocate stretches for this condition but most offer little help in overcoming upper back pain. The only real answer is gentle daily exercises to the area to help maintain circulation and suppleness in the tissue.

One thing that should be taken into consideration is that if the upper back pain is not treated properly, the problems could spread to the lower parts of the body.
